Is Your Staff Your Biggest Liability?
The success of a medical practice is linked to the competencies of its staff.

When a pilot is taxiing his plane down a runway, he is certain that his passengers will be safe and well cared for. The pilot can be confident of this because he would never allow his plane to leave the gate unless his crew is competent, well trained, and trustworthy. Just like the pilot, you need to be confident that your staff has the right competencies to provide excellent patient care and service because your practice is dependent on it.
The success of your business is directly related to the health of its operation. It is important to make the right hiring decisions because labor is one of the greatest costs and a determinant of how efficient your organization will operate. Hiring the right people can be your biggest asset but hiring the wrong people can be your greatest liability.
According to the Society for Human Resource Management’s benchmarking marketing report, cost-per-hire in California is $2814.00. Therefore, it is crucial that you make the right hiring decisions and retain good employees. When hiring an employee, it is imperative that they have the right qualifications, and you provide them with the right training. Without proper qualifications and ongoing training, an employee will not be successful in their position and will not grow. Such an employee will either vacate the position early in their employment or will perform inadequately in their new role. Both of these outcomes will have a significant negative effect. The practice will not flow efficiently, productivity will be compromised, and employee morale will become diminished.
So what does it take to hire the right person?
Know what you’re looking for in an employee and assess what the job entails. Be creative in determining the best recruitment sources. Don’t take shortcuts with the screening process so that you acquire the most qualified talent. Take the time to perform a thorough background check so that you know what you are truly getting with your talent acquisition. The success of your practice and your profit margin are depending on it.
