Inside Image Management

Job Descriptions

Job descriptions are essential to the success of any business. Yet, how much time does a small business owner have to write and update job descriptions that are meaningful and can be used to adequately evaluate your employees?  Time is of the essence to any small business owner, but you must take the time to review your job descriptions and ensure that they not outdated and reflect your current business.  Also, your job descriptions must have up-to-date guidelines on use of social media, the Internet and other relevant information technology use and patient privacy rules.

Good job descriptions are a necessity to:

  • Help protect your business in a legal manner (while there is no legal requirement for an employer to provide such a document, employers are obligated to briefly describe a position - or indicate the job title - in the terms and conditions of the employment section of a contract.)
  • Avoid ambiguity about an employee’s responsibilities and duties and is critical in the event of a disciplinary or grievance issue.
  • Help management evaluate performance and identifying training and management needs.
